I need a recommendation to buy a condensing dryer for use in the US.
It's for use by a family of four (includes a 5 yr old and a 6 month
old) in an apartment that does not allow venting. I understand some of
the pros and cons of condensing dryers vs. vented dryers, but I don't
know the extent of the differences. For example, I've learned that
condensing dryers are slower to dry than vented dryers, but I don't
know by how much. I've learned that condensing dryers heat up ( and
possibly humidify, depending on type ) the surrounding area, but I
don't know by how much. I'm willing to buy a high-end model if that's
what it takes to get a decent capacity dryer that doesn't take forever
to dry. I don't need fancy bells and whistles. I don't need it to look
pretty. I don't need a washer, but am willing to entertain combo
units. I have a drain that I can use. I've heard that Bosch and Miele
make good ones. My ideal model (which I realize may not exist) is
moderate size, large capacity, reasonable drying times, reasonable
energy use, well made, quiet, which doesn't unreasonably heat up the
surrounding area.
What I would like to see in the answer is a summary of recommendations
from people who have used specific models of condensing dryers
(perhaps links to reviews), and a table ( possibly incomplete ) with
at minimum these fields:
Manufacturer/Model
Capacity
Drying time
Water cooled/Air cooled
Energy rating
ratings ( if available from a consumer guide )
physical dimensions
quietness
how much heat it gives off
special features/comments
