Howdy labret-ga,

Having lived in Denver for 20 years, I am very familiar with what you want.
That said, the closest place I could find with your price restrictions is
just under 1.5 miles away from the Colorado Convention Center.

It is a "2 star" hotel, so maybe not the ideal place, but under 60 USD a
night. They also have a shuttle that runs to the Convention Center on the
hour from 7:00 AM until 10:00 PM. Would that meet your needs? Thanks!

If under a mile is not possible at this rate range (up to 80
USD/night), would going up to 90 or 95 USD bring a solution any closer
? If not, I'll stick to the 1.5 mile hotel.

Howdy labret-ga,

Sorry, but the least expensive place that fits your request was the Warwick
Denver Hotel at 112 USD. I will provide their information in case your budget
gets a boost. The Warwick is a nice place and within a mile of the Colorado
Convention Center.

The Warwick Denver Hotel

Toll-free from Europe: 00 800 46 34 41 00
From other countries: +33 1 45 61 82 42

I have found 3 places that are within 1.5 miles of the Colorado Convention
Center and are under 80 USD a night. I have placed them in order of what I
think is best considering quality and convenience.

- Red Lion Hotel Denver Downtown
http://www.westcoasthotels.com/WHC/hotels/ShowHotel.asp?ID=176

1975 Bryant Street
Denver, CO 80204

FAX: (303) 455-7061
RES: (800) RED-LION

79 USD per night - 5 USD per night adds a full "American" breakfast. They also
have a complimentary shuttle service to downtown Denver.

"Our guestrooms offer spectacular views of the Denver area. All rooms feature
a 25" color television set with extended cable channels and
complimentary Showtime. Hairdryers, coffee/tea makers, full size irons
and ironing boards,
two telephones with voicemail and dataports, and work desk are in each
guestroom. Bath amenities are provided by Neutrogena."

- Ramada Inn Downtown Denver

Select Colorado from the drop down menu on the right and type in Denver in the
box below that, add your dates and click on the Search button to locate the
right page. The Ramada Inn Downtown Denver will be the first in the list of
Denver area locations.

1150 East Colfax
Denver, Colorado 80218
303-831-7700

58.50 USD per night.

Amenities include:

- HBO & Cinemax
- Movies on Demand and Nintendo 64
- Guest Voice Mail and Data Ports
- Microwaves and Refrigerators Available
- In-Room Iron and Board
- In-Room Coffee Makers

- Free Secured Parking
- Guest Laundry
- Complimentary Shuttle Service (5 mile radius)
- Fitness Center

- La Quinta Inn Denver Downtown

3500 Park Ave. West
Denver, CO 80216-5126
Phone: (303)458-1222
Fax: (303)433-2246

68.40 USD a night.

- Complimentary Continental Breakfast
- Free Local Calls
- Free Parking
- Dataport Phones
- Premium Cable Channels
- Coffee Maker
- Hair Dryer
- Iron with Ironing Board
- Voicemail
- Alarm Clock

Alas, no shuttle, but the cab ride to the Colorado Convention Center would
not run that much. The La Quinta (apologies on the redundant "the" in there)
is probably a bit better place than the Ramada, and the Ramada is in a funky
neighborhood, but the La Quinta doesn't have a shuttle.

Some things to do in Denver:
- Eat lunch (supper is pricier) at the Buckhorn Exchange
http://www.buckhorn.com/
- Visit the Denver Art Museum
http://www.denverartmuseum.org/
- Tour the State Capitol Building
http://www.state.co.us/gov_dir/leg_dir/lcsstaff/tourwelcome.htm

If you are into sports, there are tours of the various sports venues.
- INVESCO Field, home of the Denver Broncos (American) football team
http://www.invescofield.com/stadium/tours.html
- Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies baseball team
http://colorado.rockies.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/col/ballpark/tours.jsp
- Pepsi Center, home to the Nuggets (basketball) and the Avalanche (ice hockey)

The downtown area, especially LoDo (Lower Downtown) has all sorts of clubs
and restaurants.

If you need any clarification, feel free to ask.

Wow! You kind of missed the mark. The Executive Tower is right
cross-corner from the convention center in Denver, and their rates are
$89/night.

Too little too late, perhaps?

I hope not!

Appreciate the comment, travelguru-ga, but I had already checked there, and
their own web site showed the dates unavailable.

Further checks show that Friday, October 14th and 15th are available at 90
USD a night, then October 16 through the 19th are unavailable, and Thursday,
October 20th is open for 139 USD. Even if the rooms had been available, this
would have averaged out to 97 USD a night.

Granted, closer, but still not available.

Also, some interesting reviews on the TripAdvisor web site.

"If you ask around Denver, like we did, of what hotel professionals think
of the Executive Tower, you'll find that the place is infamous for its seedy,
70's flop house feel."
