The hest I can do is provide some circumstantial evidence that
UK-based EMI controls the Esquire Records catalog.

1. Blue Note released four CDs in 1995 containing highlights of the
Esquire jazz catalog:

"Blue Note's Esquire Jazz Collection: Voice of the Soul collects
original recordings from the '40s and '50s by some of the most
inspired singers that recorded for the premier jazz label."

2. Blue Note is one of EMI's labels:

EMI Group: Labels: U.S.: Blue Note

Here is contact information for the EMI Group:

Corporate Communications Department
EMI Group plc
27 Wrights Lane
London
W8 5SW
Tel: 020 7795 7000

As I noted, this is not conclusive evidence that EMI owns the Esquire
Records catalog, but this may be a useful lead for you to follow up
on. If it works out for you, let me know, and I will post the
information as an answer.

Great to receive a response as this is the first time I have used Google answers.

However, EMI Records have confirmed that they do not own recordings on
the Esquire label - although Blue Note would have licensed in the
tracks you refer to so we are going to approach them direct.

Many thanks
