Does anyone have contact details for Esquire Records? I am trying to clear the master rights of "Django" by the Modern Jazz Quartet for use on a commercially released DVD. |

sorcerer6 -- The hest I can do is provide some circumstantial evidence that UK-based EMI controls the Esquire Records catalog. 1. Blue Note released four CDs in 1995 containing highlights of the Esquire jazz catalog: "Blue Note's Esquire Jazz Collection: Voice of the Soul collects original recordings from the '40s and '50s by some of the most inspired singers that recorded for the premier jazz label." Esquire Jazz Collection: Voice of the Soul http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:l70e4j572wau 2. Blue Note is one of EMI's labels: EMI Group: Labels: U.S.: Blue Note http://www.emigroup.com/rmusic/i-level1.html Here is contact information for the EMI Group: Corporate Communications Department EMI Group plc 27 Wrights Lane London W8 5SW Tel: 020 7795 7000 EMI Group: Contact http://www.emigroup.com/contact/i-intro.html As I noted, this is not conclusive evidence that EMI owns the Esquire Records catalog, but this may be a useful lead for you to follow up on. If it works out for you, let me know, and I will post the information as an answer. markj-ga |

Great to receive a response as this is the first time I have used Google answers. However, EMI Records have confirmed that they do not own recordings on the Esquire label - although Blue Note would have licensed in the tracks you refer to so we are going to approach them direct. Many thanks Ivan Chandler |
