Where and in what ways has an Algebraic calculator like the TI-92 been
used as an assistive device for Learning Disabled college students in
order to be in compliance with the 1988 Technology Assistance Act? |

math4u-ga,
Just to clarify, are you seeking examples ONLY at the college level?
The reason I ask, is that there also seem to be some interesting
examples at the high-school level, and I was wondering whether these
would be of interest to you as well?
Let me know.

Also, does there need to be an explicit reference to compliance with
the Technology Assistance Act? Most of the examples I'm seeing do not
specifically mention this as the impetus for using the calculators for
LD students.

Sorry for the delay in responding to your clarification request. Since
this is my first question I did not understand the clarification
process.
??there also seem to be some interesting examples at the high-school
level, and I was wondering whether these would be of interest to you
as well??
I would be interested if the use of the algebraic calculators (TI-92)
mentiones that they were used for learning disabled (LD) students at
the high school or college level. I am looking for evidence to support
the use of such calculators at my institution, a community college.
Many Math faculty members are against this use, especially for
students at the beginning Algebra level, which is comparable to high
school Algebra.
??an explicit reference to compliance with the Technology Assistance Act??
In my quest to have this type of technological assistance accepted at
my college I thought that if there was some type of a legal
requirement for faculty having to accept its use, I would not have to
engage in some extended ?up-hill? education debates on the merits of
the use of this technology for LD students. If there is no information
out there about the connection between the Tech Act and specific
practices at schools, then I will be disappointed. This situation will
add motivation to the necessity of writing some type of article for
some educational journal regarding this educational issue.
I would be glad to send you a couple of emails that I have been
bouncing around the internet seeking answers to my posted question.
This may give you some additional clarification, I hope.
