Dear Kingsjuli,
Patrick McCaffery, a former editor and reporter for The Washington
Post and Baltimore Sun, wrote an article on the merits of living in
Nicaragua and that answers your questions. The main points of his
article, are: -
Cost of living: Nicaragua is cheap; $130 is enough to get a residency;
1-2 rooms apartments cost - $30,000 ; $150-250 to rent. One can live
here comfortably on about $500 to $800 a month, including domestic
help, utilities, and taxes. Health insurance is available for $90 a
month. Outpatient care is free.
Conditions: 5,000 retirees (about 2,500 of them Americans, the rest
Germans and Canadians); hot and humid climate; bureaucracy ;
