Dear Kingsjuli,

Patrick McCaffery, a former editor and reporter for The Washington
Post and Baltimore Sun, wrote an article on the merits of living in
Nicaragua and that answers your questions. The main points of his
article, are: -

Cost of living: Nicaragua is cheap; $130 is enough to get a residency;
1-2 rooms apartments cost - $30,000 ; $150-250 to rent. “One can live
here comfortably on about $500 to $800 a month, including domestic
help, utilities, and taxes. Health insurance is available for $90 a
month. Outpatient care is free.”

Conditions: 5,000 retirees (about 2,500 of them Americans, the rest
Germans and Canadians); hot and humid climate;  bureaucracy ;

Nicaragua are:

soc.culture.nicaragua to discuss the relocation even more;

The membership in all of these groups is free, all you have to do is

Don't let yourself be fooled by what you hear or read about the cost
of living being lower in neighboring countries like Honduras, Belize
and Nicaragua. True, you can live less expensively in said places but
the quality of life can't compare with that of Costa Rica. The lack of
infrastructure in Nicaragua; the rampant poverty, squalor and violence
which permeate Honduras; and a rising cost of living in Belize make
Costa Rica the only logical choice. Too many people tend to think a
lower cost of living is synonymous with a high quality of life. You
really get what you pay for when it comes to choosing between Costa
Rica and its neighbors.
