The question has 3 parts 1/ What address book software to use 2/ What phone syncing software to use 3/ How to get the sync to work (Bluetooth or virtual COM, technical settings for max speed, etc.?) Summary of the problem ====================== I was using a Lotus notes 6.0 address book which I could synch perfectly to my Nokia 6110 via infrared using Nokia's PCSync software - this included street address fields. I have now bought a Motorola V620 and after much difficulty I have it "kind of" communicating to my WindowsXP sP2 pc with a Belkin USB bluetooth adapter. BTW Motorola does not provide bundled software with the phone. "kind of" means that 2 programs I have tried can sync the phone to their proprietary phone book formats: MOBILedit! Lite 1.94 mobile PhoneTools 3.19e1 I dont like these programs because they are ignoring the street address fields in the V620 (mobile PhoneTools even deletes these after a sync) I dont like MOBILedit! becuase it wont read Notes or windows address boks - how would I convert my data? (I would have to add an x@x to trick the email field to allow street addresses?) When I tested mobile phonetools it was slow and cumbersome, and the local outloook express was not updated with a new number on the phone (although the phone was updated when I added an outlook number). I dont like floAt's Mobile Agent 2.0.0.19 - while it seemed to connect after I set it to access the COM9 virtual bluetooth port (native bluetooth wouldnt work), I couldnt create a local address book downloaded from the phone - I got this error message Exception class: EStringListError Exception message: List index out of bounds (3) Exception address: 00422D3D Also, there were 10 minutes when Mobile Agent was taking 99% CPU power!!! It seemed quite unstable and syncs went on forever. I was never sure if I could sync with the "local" Mobile Agent phonebook or if I needed everything in MS Outlook (I only have OL express and lotus notes on my PC) I dont think SyncML technolgy will help me because I want to sync via bluetooth not some mobile internet site. My understanding is this phone came out in the last 2 months and there is no software that supports it properly. Other apps I have not tried yet (not sure if they support bluetooth): ===================================================================== DataPilot - only seems to support V600 and is USB cable only Futuredial - only seems to support V600 and is USB cable only Quicklink Mobile - seems like it may support bluetooth but no mention of what phones it supports! http://www.smithmicro.com/default.tpl?cart=11071095291976078&group=product_full&sku=QLMWAKEE&prodview=intro Oxygen Phone Manager does not seem to support this phone (didnt try) since the phone apparently does not have the Symbian Operating System ================More background info 1/ The following problem happened to me with the Belkin USB bluetooth drivers - but I fixed it as follows: "invalid license key" problem - as documented http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/communication/cmu/pro_cmu_quide.php?UID=449 (I cannot find anything from Belkin) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006HYM3/102-6369812-5777743?v=glance The security seems to have been modified in the 1.4.2.10 drivers, btsec.dll doesnt seem to be used anymore and the security is present in these 3 files BTTray.exe (typically in c:\program files\widcomm) BTStackServer.exe (lives in the same directory as BTTray.exe) WBTAPI.DLL (lives in c:\windows\system32 or c:\winnt\system32) http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=106274 The following patch fixed this check - I assume I am not doing anthing illegal because Belkin's drivers should work??!! http://www.jonscaife.btinternet.co.uk/patch_v4.exe ============================================== 2/ Then there was the windows XP Service Pack 2 problem but this was fixed with these instructions http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/tech/BT-WINXPSP2.pdf (I disbaled the windows XP driver) |
