I'm watching Pompeii: The Last Day on Discovery Channel.  Since it was
originally on BBC, why are the narration and interviews in an American
accent?

Why do so many of our documentaries use a narrator with a British accent?

Because they sound smarter?  Surely the Brits don't think the same of
American accents.
