Dear Inshallah, Read my answer here: Can a foreign doctor give me a prescription over the internet? <http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=353524> I'll sum up the most relevant part for you: "Postal ordering and "importing" the medicine, on the other hand, lies in a grey area and is basically illegal due to the Postal Service Act (2000), and, depending on substance and quantity, could be also illegal of other reasons (Medicine Act, 1968; Misuse of Drugs Act, 1971)." Get healthy, inshallah, and consider other solutions to your problem. I find it hard to believe that you cannot get preventive treatment against Chickenpox in the UK. |

Thanks for your comments PG I am very healthy - my diet is excellent as is my level of excercise. Even though I have been tested for imunity to Varicella (negative) the health service here refuse to vaccinate me as I am not immuno compromised. Believe me I have been trying everywhere to get it done, offering to pay for it. Unfortunatly our Health Service is not the most forward looking. thanks IN |

Have you tried talking to something like the British Airways clinic ? Also - finding another GP The final resort is to go for what we used to do in the 1950-60's - people held Chicken Pox parties for kids The idea was to deliberately catch it when fit - I have vague memories of fever and ... nothing much |

Dear Inshallah, I was in the same position as you i.e. I had not had chickenpox as a child or adult (now 35 years old). I had a blood test to establish whether or not I had antibodies. The result was negative, proof I had never had chickenpox. So I saw my Doctor in West Lothian, Scotland and arranged to have the vaccination. I had been trying to get this vaccine named Varilvax for 4 years. I originally was told it was only available for immune compromised individuals not for healthy ones like myself. Now though this position has changed, you should be able to get the vaccine easily. The vaccine is especially important for child bearing age women who may become pregnant. I can't tell from your name whether you are male or female but if you are female you could tell your GP you are planning on starting a family. This may help your case. There is a lot of information on medical websites stating dangers to pregnant women and unborn children if they contract chickenpox. The vaccine is given in two separate doses 4 to 8 weeks apart. The dose of Varilvax is 0.5ml each dose. By the way a similar vaccine is called Varivax but I think this one is American or foreign. I had absolutely no symptons or rash from this vaccination and most people don't. I hope this has been of some help to you. Please feel free to email me at neil.barton@brownglegg.co.uk Emily |

Hi Inshallah, Re my earlier post, the correct spelling of the chickenpox vaccine is Varilix. The USA vaccine is Varivax. Hope this helps. Emily |
