That's a pretty big question for $2.00 but sence I can't get paid anyways, I'll see what I can come up with. The obvious one would be the day-night cycle. This one causes tempature differences on the surface of the Earth. This plus the topography leads to wind. Wind causes waves and crurents in the oceans. Wind and ocean curents move heat energy around causing more tempature differences. Tempature differences causes local climats which leads to specilization of plants and animals. |

The rotation of the also helps to stabilize the earth in terms of inertia. Similar to the idea of why bullets are "rifled" -- it helps stabilize them. |

If you're asking about the revolution of the earth around the sun, then that's a bit different. The revolution of the earth around the sun provides two main purposes here on earth. 1) Allows for us to have seasons, which results in natural growth cycles, natural death cycles, and helps keep life balanced on earth. 2) The much, much more important factor, however, is that the earth revolving around the sun exerts a centrifugal force outwards which is equal and opposite to the gravitational force exerted on the earth by the sun. If earth were not revolving around the sun, there would be no force to counter gravity. Earth would be pulled towards the sun. Eventually, the sun would swallow the earth, and we'd all die. It would mega-suck. |
