I recently purchased a 17 inch, 1.5 GHZ Powerbook. It came from Apple with 512 memory. The System profiler said the memory was in slot 0/STANDARD. I added a 1GB modual in the other available slot. It is not Apple factory memory but it seems to work fine. However, the system profile says the memory is in slot 1/REVERSED. What does that mean (REVERSED). Is this memory really working? Thanks. Hello. "Reversed" is normal and merely refers to the name of the memory slot. For your Powerbook, the System Profiler's Memory Overview calls the first slot "Standard" and the second slot "Reversed." From various Mac messageboards: "SODIMM0/J20STANDARD SODIMM1/J23REVERSED I'm just wondering if its normal for the second slot to say "reversed." ...yea, that's normal." http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-31162.html "BTW "reversed" is normal in a PB - it just refers to the layout of the RAM slots." http://216.239.57.104/search?q=cache:BFaSb83Czx4J:forums.macrumors.com/archive/topic/41198-1.html+SODIMM1+REVERSED&hl=en The Memory Overview would called the slot "Reversed" even if it were empty. See: " Location Type Size SODIMM0/J20STANDARD DDR SDRAM 512 MB SODIMM1/J23REVERSED empty " http://www.faq-mac.com/mt/archives/003333.php The bottom line is that if you look at "About This Mac" in the Apple Menu, and it says that you've got the right amount of memory, then it's really working. --------- search strategy: "memory overview" reversed powerbook I hope this helps. If you have any questions, please let me know via the "request clarification" feature. Thanks. |

Sorry for omitting a word above: "The Memory Overview would HAVE called the slot..." |
