I just finished reading this article:
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/01/31/first.phone.ap/index.html
and began to wonder how many communities/households in the US have no
phone service? From what it sounds like in this article, not only did
Mink, LA not have landline access, but cell phones weren't very
effective either.
So my quetion is, which communities within the US have no landline
phone service available? Also, if possible, can you find out if these
same communities have cell phone coverage.
I know there is a trend with some people moving away from landline
phones and going to cell only service, so a count/percent/figures
pertaing to households without land lines may be somewhat misleading.
I'm really looking for areas where availability is non-existent.
I expect that communities that have no phone service would be in
remote locations such as Alaska and the South West (desert) areas.
What does Google say?
A community without phone service sounds somewhat appealing to me for
retirement, as long as the short wave works ;-) |
