Question ID: 466540
My water has a low Ph and the water pipes in my house ( 5yr old house
) are copper. The acidity increases the amount of copper introduced
into the water = blue water, blonde hair turning to blonde w/ a tint
of blue, blue stains on the shower, etc... I have sent my water off
via the County agent to U of Ga. for testing, meanwhile, I have had a
United standard representative and a Culligan rep test my water
(limited testing abilities). I am awaiting detailed test results from
the County. My question is: Does any water filtration company offer a
filter that I can hook up directly to the shower head instead of
having a filter that purifies the water upstream only to have it run
through my copper pipes and turn my hair and shower blue. I know they
offer filtrationn for the kitchen, but I only care about the water
coming out of the shower. Thanks

A friend of mine has a similar problem. She has white hair, and the
copper from her pipes was turning her hair a strange shade of
turquoise! My friend solved her blue water problem with a filtering
shower head called "The Silver Bullet" from a company called Santé.
The company offers a wide variety of shower filters, as well as a
bathtub water filter.

Would any of these devices meet your needs?

cool! I just ordered a silver bullet! I have a pseudo-related
question. Do you know of any filters or filter/softener combo that can
lower the ph of the water?

Reverse osmosis water filters can lower the pH of your water. There
are hundreds of reverse osmosis systems around. Here are a few:

I'll be glad to do more research on reverse osmosis for you, if that
would provide a satisfactory answer to your question.

I'm pleased to have been able to help you find a shower filter. I hope
the Silver Bullet will be as effective for you as it has been for my
formerly blue-haired friend!

Thanks to pinkfreud for the helpful tip.

I would recommend checking out the Rainshow'r CQ-1000 shower filter.
They are considerably less expensive, and the replacement filters are
cheaper as well. The CQ-1000 also contains a KDF filtration bed and
removes chlorine.

You can find info on the mfg here: http://www.rainshowrmfg.com

Google Search "rainshowr cq-1000":
