I need to know where and how I can access United States Copyright statistics.

The information I want includes the number of applications processed
each year (for approximately the past 10 years), and their success
ratios (for example, out of 100 applications processed, 10 were
accepted).

I have searched the website of the Copyright Office itself,
http://www.copyright.gov/, but was unsuccessful. The information may
be there, but I have not been able to find it.

Thank you.

busco-ga,

The Copyright Office's annual reports for the years 2000-2003 can be found here:

http://www.copyright.gov/reports/

The section of the 2003 report titled "Copyright Law Administration"
includes the following statement:

"During fiscal 2003, the Copyright Office received 607,492 claims to
copyright covering more than a million works. Of these, it registered
534,122 claims."

I'm sure you can find similar information in earlier reports, but it
may take a call to the Copyright Office to tease out the numbers for
the past ten years or so.

Hope that helps get you started, anyway...

pafalafa-ga,

That is an excellent start. Thank you for finding the information.

Please excuse me (I have never used this service before), what
clarification do you need?

Regards,
busco-ga

busco-ga,

Glad to hear the information was useful.

I didn't mean to confuse you about the clarification thing...I was
just posting the information I had found in the "clarification" box,
because I didn't feel it was enough information to warrant posting in
the official "answer" box.

Consider it a freebie!
