Hi, I have a number of .pst files created from a series of
appointments in Outlook 2000 that have become quite large (the largest
being 16MB).

My problem is that I need to compact these files to be a smaller size.

I have run a few simple tests on these appointments and found that the
information within each appointment is actually quite small (includes
images and text). I have even isolated one appointment screen by
itself (with no information contained within the appointment at all)
and found that this alone, when exported, created a .pst file of 48K.

I don't understand why this is the case, and am assuming that I must
be able to reduce the size of my .pst files that contain a series of
Outlook appointment screens.

I have tried some .pst compacting software to no avail, namely PST Manager.

Thanks, look forward to hearing a solution to reducing the size of my
.pst files that contain Outlook appointment data.

Patrick

16 megs isn't that large. Large is in the high 100s (like 800) megs.
I think it starts to get a problem when it's over 2 gigs.

images can make files large in outlook if they are embedded in the
appointment (rather than attached as a file). i think outlook treats
them as a bmp file.

you can get a listing of your appointments by size in your calendar by
opening the calender -> view menu -> current view -> by category.
Then add the size column by view menu -> current view -> customize
current view. Sort by size to see the largest appointments.

Hi James,

Thanks for your comment, I understand that 16MB is not too large,
however it still needs to be reduced for a specific purpose to be more
manageable, ideally to a size of around 2MB. The file is to be used in
conjunction with some custom software that can only upload relatively
small pst files.

Thanks,
