Hi richard2222!!
The short answer to your question is using the Bluetooth capabilities
of your Powerbook if it is available in your model, if not you can use
the following adapter:
D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter:
"Enable short-range wireless data connectivity between your Mac and
Bluetooth-enabled devices such as GSM/GPRS mobile phones, PDAs,
keyboards, and mice. The D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter is the
easy way to add Bluetooth capabilities to your older Macintosh
systems."

For instructions on how you can do that see the following page:

As you can guess you will need a GSM/GPRS Bluetooth-enabled mobile. A
complete list of these mobiles is too long, but almost all the last
generation of mobiles have this feature. See for example the following
page for a partial list:
"Bluetooth Mobile Phones, Bluetooth Accessories":
http://www.mphone.co.uk/bluetooth/
Note that you just need to enable digital-data features through your
cellular provider, which will probably charge an additional monthly
fee. Take into account that cellular connections tend to be much
slower than your Mac on a standard 56K modem.
Some mobile phones have compatibility problems that can be solved by
using scripts from this page:

If you connect your powerbook with the mobile you will find very useful the iSync:
"Using iSync, you can keep your phone updated with your contacts'
numbers without having to type in their info on a tiny keypad. Keep
the information in the more manageable Address Book on your Mac
instead. Address Book also lets you send SMS messages over your mobile
phone, and will display SMS messages from your phone on your Mac. You
can also use your Mac to respond to voice calls."
