I need the Estimated Earnings per Share (EPS) and Forward
Price-Earnings (PE) Ratio for the companies listed below (stock
symbols in parentheses).

I only need the EPS information for the 1st and 2nd quarters of 2003.
You can often find such information on pages such as this:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ae?s=ACE that contains Analyst Estimates. I
do not want the Actual EPS for these quarters, just the estimated
(sometimes called projected) EPS.

From what I have seen, the Forward PE is available only on an annual
basis (by Fiscal Year). I need the Forward PE for 2003 and 2004 only.
2005 is currently available. If quarterly Forward PEs are available (I
have not encountered this), I would appreciate that instead of the
annual.

Companies:

+ACE
+AIG
+Chubb (CB)
+Everest Re (RE)
+Hartford Financial (HIG)
+MBIA (MBI)
+Partner Re (PRE)
+St. Paul Travelers (STA)
+XL Capital (XL)

NOTE: The Travelers Property Casualty Corp. and St. Paul Companies,
Inc. merger was completed on April 1, 2004. If data is not available
prior to the Second Quarter of 2004, please do not research any
further.

Thanks!

Earnings estimates are indeed available quarterly, and as such you can
calculate a forward P/E for any given time, assuming you have the
estimates for the next four quarters and the stock's price.

For the sake of time and practicality, I'm providing both the Q1 2003
and Q2 2003 estimates for a single point in time - December 31, 2002.

Again, for sake of practicality, I'm just providing the P/Es for
certain periods. I've provided five forward P/Es for each company,
based on the closing prices at the end of five quarters. For instance,
the forward P/E as of December 2002 represents the monthly price
divided by the sum of the estimates for the first four quarters of
2003. The P/E as of March 2003 represents the monthly price divided by
the sum of the estimates for the last three quarters of 2003 and the
first quarter of 2004.

	Q1 03	Q2 03 Forward P/E
	Est.	Est. 12/02	3/03 6/03 9/03 12/03

Ace	$0.94	$1.01	7.1	6.8	7.8	7.2	8.3
AIG	$0.93	$0.97	14.6	12.4	13.5	13.6	14.9
Chubb	$1.21	$1.26	9.9	9.2	12.3	11.8	11.2
Hartford$1.13	$1.16	9.6	7.3	9.6	9.2	10.0
MBIA	$1.16	$1.16	9.2	8.6	10.7	11.2	11.5
Partner Re$1.70	$1.62	8.1	11.0	7.9	7.2	7.7
Everest Re$1.58	$1.67	8.1	8.0	8.8	8.3	7.9

Great answer!

Could you tell me your sources, or is that proprietary information? I
only ask because this data is a subset for an overall project, and if
I am asked what my sources were (aside from Google Answers), I'd like
to have an answer.

Thanks,
Mike

The source for the historical estimates is proprietary. However,
anyone with the estimates can calculate the P/Es usind nothing more
than historical pricing data from Yahoo!

P.S. Thanks for the tip and the kind words.

I know it's possibly too late, but I requested the forward P/E for
2004 as well as 2003 and did not realize until now that I only have
the forward P/E through 2003.

If you could post the data I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Sorry about the lack of data. I was thinking about 2004 estimates, not
the valuation. Here is the complete schedule of forward P/Es, based on
stock prices at the end of the quarter. I have no quarterly earnings
estimates for Everest RE in 2005, and as such I don't have forward
P/Es for Everest in 2004.

This is great. Not only did I get the raw data (which I expected), but
I also got an explanation of the rationale for the data that was
retrieved. The data was also formatted such that it is easy to read,
and shows that this person clearly put some time and effort into this.
I wish my company's research department was this good.

Thanks!
