Brother Frank Herold of Dayton, Ohio, was a Marianist who first arrived in Hawaii to teach at Saint Louis College in 1883. A painter of great talent, he painted landscapes of Hawaii including volcanic eruptions. I have already been in touch with Saint Louis School whose archivist was most kind in providing a quote about Bro. Frank Herold from ?New Wars? by Eugene Paulin. S.M. Catholic Life Publications 1959. I am looking for further information about Brother Frank Herold, his paintings and the ?volcano school? of painters who painted volcanic eruptions in Hawaii in the late 19th and early 20th century. |
