I am looking for basic statistical information on the elevator
industry. Particular questions that I am trying to answer include how
many elevators there are in the US (ideally per state) and how many
per sector (commercial, residential, etc) and how many new every year.
Information on the current energy consumption by elevators would also
be greatly appreciated.

I need the information to estimate the potential energy savings for
changing the lighting in the elevators to a new and more efficient
system we are working on.

Unfortunately my timeframe to answer these questions is less than two
days. The only information that I have been able to find is that in
1996 there were approximately 600,000 elevators in the US; I don't
know how reliable the information is and what would be the current
figure.

Thanks very much.
