I'm a United States citizen, born in the States.  What must I do to
emigrate to Iceland?

Thank you for your question.


First of all, citizens of the United States are exempted from the visa
obligation when entering Iceland for stay up to three months.

“If you wish to stay in Iceland for longer than 3 months, then you
will need to apply for a special resident permit which the Directorate
of Immigration grants.”

According to the Immigration Act, The Directorate of Immigration
issues residence permits and necessary permits for entrance and stay
in Iceland.  It also handles applications for asylum.
