I'd like to say, "Boston has more universities per square mile than
any other city in the world." But is that true? Does it have more
colleges, if not universities? Does it have more, total -- as opposed
to more per square mile? If not the world, how about the United
States?

This webpage makes your point, rather ungrammatically:

"The students flood to Boston every September, as the city has more
colleges per square mile than any other cities in the world."

http://web1.arch.hawaii.edu/soa_alt1/Practicumstudio/News/Boston.htm

Two more statements of the claim:

"Boston, MA has more schools per square mile than any other city in the world."

http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:uW6iq6nJQ-oJ:www.simplygreek.com/forum/topic.asp

"Boston holds more universities per sq. mi. than anyplace on Earth."

http://www.reachm.com/amstreet/archives/2004/11/06/prime-targets/

Do any of these quotes meet your needs?

town bursting with high-tech companies."

My Google search strategy:

Google Web Search: boston "more OR most schools OR colleges OR universities per"

I hope this helps!
