Just realized, my answer was incomplete. There is also an issue with
the glx drivers. It seems there is some bug in the package so they
have pulled it from the repository.

You first must obtain a nvidia-glx package, I installed wget and did this:
wget http://sebastien.phelep.free.fr/nvidia6111/nvidia-glx_1.0.6111-1_i386.deb

2. now you have to install the package manually:
cd /location/package/file/
dpkg -i nvidia-glx_1.0.6111-1_i386.deb

dpkg will complain about umet dependancy with nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111,
ignore this for now, unless you can actually find a package as I have
not been able to. The downside of this is that you can not run apt-get
upgrade/install without fixing the dependancy so if you do this, make
sure to reinstall the glx package manually.

3. Install the same nvidia driver version that I mention in my last
comment and you should be good to go.

One note, there is some buzz in places that talk about grabbing the
glx package from unstable, but this doesn't work as the versions for
the glx driver and the kernel module have to match and the 6629
version is still problematic.

This is so frustrating. I got it to work in freebsd. Thats what I am
now on. But man i've been through hell and back with this issue.
Atleast now I've picked up some freebsd experience. I will reinstall
Debian and try that. Hopefully that will work. I think I first will
get a bigger hard drive though.

Ok I've done more testings. It seems to bet that 1.0-6111 is the
latest nvidia driver that will work with my integrated nvidia
GeForce2. It looks like kernel 2.6.8 is needed to compile driver.
Have tried this on FC3 and Ubutntu with success.
