The city of Boston, like many older cities, has the habit of bestowing
the names of people upon "squares." At each such "square" there is
erected a small metal sign bearing the name of a person given to the
"square." Of course, the "square" is usually an intersection of a
small, one-way street, and another, smaller, one-way street. One such
intersection on Charter Street in the North End has a unique name. It
should be identifiable as the intersection of Charter Street and
Greenough Lane (which is really just the Charter Street Playground),
but on the map it may be the intersection of Charter Street and Unity
Street. Anyway, the intersection bears the name "Pvt. XYZ Square."
Whose name is on that sign, and who was he? |
