What were you doing when the error occurred? And what distribution of
what operating system are you using?

Clarification of Question by clancy2m2-ga on 05 Feb 2005 11:52 PST
Sorry to be so late. Flu etc.
To your question what was I doing when I received the error message I
has opened KDE Release 3.2.3 to my home file:/home/clarence/My
pictures and subfile 04 09 0. I went to File>Page setup where I chose
Portrait, Property 7 x 10 in, margins 0.5 all sides of the paper>OK.
Next I went to File>Print, using CUPS for printer to be used>Print. I
received the response: Print error 04 09 0(the subfile
designation)>another error box entitled, "Catastrophe! KNotify:>its
message:"A print error occurred. Error message received from system.
Error while reading file description for true(in bold face print).
Empty command line received".

The KDE Release 3.2.3 Properties for Konqbrowser are: Type
Explorer(Konqueror); Location:/home/clarence/.kde/share/apps/kicker;
Size: 354-B(354); Mounted on: /home; Freedisk space: 3.9GB out of
4.2GB(9% used); Modified: 01/01/05 08:48pm; Accessed: 01/01/05

I had received the same Catastrophe! KNotify when I had previously
tried to print a list my Address File from the same above /home file.

"This has been an annoyance for ages, but it's nothing more than an annoyance
once you know what's happening. For some reason printing (I think it's
kprinter that does it) can leave behind a filter that should be removed, IMO.
Anyway, the cure is to open the property box beside the bar that shows your
printer name - the one that shows all details about printer setup - and there
should be a tab (rightmost on mine) for filters. Delete the filter there,
and it will print again. Of course it will happen frequently - at least it
does if I use kprinter, which is the default for kde apps. Setting Mozilla
to print through xpp gives me access to the printers without leaving the
filter behind. HTH "

Bug 71750: Print error. Error while reading filter description for
true. Empty command line received. (crash)

Opened: 2004-01-03 14:59
Product: kate
Component: kwrite
Version: unspecified
Status: RESOLVED
Platform: Mandrake RPMs
Resolution: WORKSFORME
Reporter: Monica Smith
Assigned to: KWrite Developers

Version: 4.1 (using KDE 3.1.0)
Installed from: Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker
Compiler: gcc version 3.2.2 (Mandrake Linux 9.1 3.2.2-3mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-0.13mdk

KWrite does not send message to printer--i.e. cannot print.

No problem printing from "evolution" "gimp" "office.org"

In other words, the computer and the printer work together, except
when the program is Kde

allready solved in cvs I guess, with the newer printing code

------- Additional Comment #2 From Christoph Cullmann 2004-01-05 22:47 -------
as for me, printing works well and I never got this message ever (but
I got some bad infinite loops in the past, but not since the latest qt
stuff is around), I will close this bug as works for me, for kde 3.2
