I'm looking for a young adult book I had in hardback in the early
'90s, it was a collection of short stories or folk tales, kind of an
American Gothic style. Linking them was a narrator train-hopping,
maybe being told the stories.

The episodes I remember: one involves crows as signs to American
Indians, another has a woman dying of consumption, a third possibly
involved a town dance. The crows might have been a recurring theme.
