I was recently infected with what I think was a variant of Trojan.PageStart. It took me about 24 hours to figure out how to get rid of it. I tried all of the conventional ways that were suggested, but to no avail. While contemplating hara-kiri I stumbled upon a suggested fix that said go to Internet Explorer/Tools/Manage Add-ons and disable any suspicious looking items. One of the items I disabled was iaak.dll. Instantly the trojan was gone. I just noticed that it, iaak.dll, is back. I don't currently have any symptoms of this trojan. I googled for iaak.dll but got zero hits. Is there any information on what this file is? I'm running XP home. |

Have you tried AVG Anti-virus? You can find a link to Free (for personal use) AVG and other tools to remove viruses and spyware here www.vermontpcsolutions.com/tools_anti_virus.html. Good luck! |

To simly disable the trojan is not enough as it is a dll file it will automatically restore itself into your system settings. I would suggest that you disable it using http://www.startupmechanic.com/ and then search for the file on your PC (startupmechanic will also assist in pin pointing the file location), once found remove it and clean your system using http://www.ccleaner.com/ The AVG virus solution is also a excellent route to take. |

You can try several things to attempt to rid your system of this malware. Firstly, I highly recommend you use an ad-ware/spy-ware removal application. I personally use two programs for this task. Ad-Aware (Free): http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ SpyBot Search & Destroy (Free): http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html I have been repairing Computers for 7+ years; I have tried out all the different firewalls and anti-virus programs out there. I HIGHLY recommend you pay for your anti-virus. I have a friend who was running AVG and was infected with 11 Trojans. I recommend you buy NOD32 anti-virus. It has won the most awards and hasn't failed any ITW virus test in the last 7 years. You can download a trial and or buy a copy here: http://www.nod32.com Regards, ChaosBlizzard-ga |
