Dear Do Dad,

Do what I do - listen to what others say. Not only online, but also in
stores, in meeting of your parents' circle or group etc. By the way,
the link given in the comment seems to be to a specific product, not
really to impartial reviews.

On Epinions you can read full reviews of baby carriers:
E-Pinions- Baby Carriers
<http://www.epinions.com/kifm-Baby_Equipment-Carriers-All>

In order to check reviews, you can either browse by a brand, choose
the option "view all carriers" (in which case those that are with the
best reviews/number of reviewers on the top), or by price groups.

Baby Bjorn, for example, is the first coming up:
Baby Bjorn Model 2003 Baby Carrier
<http://www.epinions.com/pr-Baby_Bjorn_Baby_Carrier_2003_Model_Baby_Carrier>
After the long list of US stores where you can get your Bjorn online
(in order to compare prices), you get the "user reviews" (direct link
on the top of the page), and of course, you can know the details.

Amazon.com also promises many reviews from users as well as from their editors:
Amazon.com:  Backpacks & Carriers section
<http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/542456/ref=br_dp__1/002-0511227-4130417>

Diaperpin also provides reviews of carriers:
Diaperpin
<http://www.diaperpin.com/diapers/itemlist.asp?subcat=CARRIER>

More sites:
Baby Greenhouse, "Choosing a baby carrier or sling"
<http://www.baby-greenhouse.co.uk/articles/article_slings.html>

The Baby Show, Baby slings, carriers & pouches

Toni Page Birdsong, "Baby Trekking Made Easier", Tiny Travellers,
<http://www.tinytravelers.net/gear/babytrek.html> - if you're the sporty dad.

Paulus Wanandi, "Babywearing: A Dad's Experience", The Baby Wearer
<http://www.thebabywearer.com/articles/WhatToO/Dads.htm> - lots of
good advices for dads, also product review.

I hope this answered your question and good luck with the newborn!
Please contact me if you need any clarifications on this answer before
you rate it. My search strategy was to search for ["baby carriers"
"reviews"] in Google.

My husband and I found great use in the Consumer Reports Baby Products
Guide, a book which helped us to know which baby items were really
necessary, and which ones you should definitely buy new (like a
carseat), versus those you could do fine with second-hand (like a high
chair).

It was an especially great help to read before we went to Babies R Us
to be confronted by the enormous selection of many items that were not
really necessary, but which many first time parents get suckered into
anyway.

Good luck!

Gentle Nest has a great article, about what to look for when choosing
a baby sling.
<http://www.geocities.com/gentle_nest>
Not a review of specific brand names, but shows you what points to
look out for in a good healthy sling carrier.

There are a lot of baby carriers and slings out there that really
aren't good for either baby or mother. You may find that many of the
top selling carriers are not good at all for baby's spinal
development, and may actually be damaging. This article written by a
chiropractor is very interesting.
<http://www.continuum-concept.org/reading/spinalStress.html>
Choice magazine has also slammed some big name slings as being
detrimental to the wearer. It is a good idea to read as much as you
can and definitely ask around to get a good idea of what is going to
be a carrier you can use for the long term.

You can compare hundreds of slings side-by-side and sort by price,
rating, etc. here: www.slingdirectory.com
