I have recently become interested in the " Wireless in Local Loop" last mile solution. This solution allows Copper wire exchanges to be converted into transmission towers for limited wireless capability. There are many advantages to this.. in theory. From what I understand, it can transmit data as well as voice, can be set up in 90/120 days and is cheaper to maintain. What would like to know is how far has it been implemeted, especially in India and the Developing and Sustainable world? I have read that it has been implemented in places like China, Mauritius and even Serbia. Has it been successful? If not, why? and what are its competitors. Basically I would like to learn everything I can about it. Who are the big players... I am also very interested in the Data component more than the voice capabilities... What is the signal quality/strength compared to what we have. I would also like to know if there is a capability for developing commerical solutions to get more people/companies interested in the Data transmission capabilities of already set up "Local Loops". some solutions I can think of are E-learning, TeleMedicine, Egovernance. Is there a market for this? I know this is alot and I am willing to clear any doubs as they come along. I thank you for your time and effort. Sincerely, jhallasf |

Wireless in Local Loop on CDMA transmission is proven technology in India. You may visit the site http://www.cdg.org/worldwide/index.asp#result to know more on the service providers. Essentially it is CDMA 2000 1x and reasonably good data speeds are achieved on actual field situations. Regards, Sid |

To add to what I have commented, CDMA technology is an impressive last mile solution and being widely used for different POS(Point of Sales) solutions in Banking and Retail Industries in India. Having said that, we need to understand more on WIMAX, which may eventually replace any 3G solution, by virtue of providing broad band connectivity at the last mile. Cheers Sid |
