I am seeking information ASAP on how to minimize expenses for a New
Jersey driver that has received a "reckless driving" ticket in
Manassas, Virginia (Prince William County) - including avoiding
obtaining legal counsel.
My father received a "reckless driving" ticket in Manassas, Virginia
today as allegedly doing 85 in a 65 on I95.
The Officer did not check the box that says that my father would not
have to attend court. The ticket says that my father promises to
appear at the General District Court at 9311 Lee Ave in Manassas, VA
on a certain date in the next two weeks.
But the Officer stated that my father would not likely have to go to
court, and that my father should call the following number:
703-792-6141.
That is the number to:
General District Court
9311 Lee Avenue Manassas, VA 20110-5586. Phones: Traffic/Criminal
Division: 703.792.6141
The ticket says for pretrial waiver and pre-payment call that number.
The ticket says to promptly call that number and listen to the message
(as it is a weekend - the number says call on Monday). The ticket
says if you do not hear the message, tell them you wish to waive trial
and prepay the fine and cost.
Also, my father has a CDL license as he is a retired truck driver.
The police officer failed to check the box on the ticket that
indicates that the driver has a CDL license. Can the officer's error
be used to minimize costs?
A successful answer to my inquiry for information will provide the
following information:
- good information on what my father's options are in terms of
minimizing costs related to this ticket
- good examples of how others have approached this situation and how
costs have been minimized
- information on how New Jersey treats Virginia reckless driving
tickets of this nature
- how much money this will likely cost and whether there is any way to
avoid or otherwise minimize costs
- the effect of the Officer's failure to check the CDL box on the ticket
- whether my father can avoid going to court, obtaining an attorney
and simply pay a fine and if so, approximately how much the fine would
be
- information on your qualifications for answering this question
An answer will be considered complete and timely if received by
Tuesday, February 8, 2005. However, an otherwise acceptable answer
will receive an additional tip of $20 if received by tomorrow, Sunday,
February 6, 2005.
Your time is much appreciated, and I am willing to tip more for a
great answer received by tomorrow!
My father is a retired professional CDL road driver that has over 25
years of safe driving. He has won driving competitions. He was
driving down to visit his 4 year old grand daughter, and only has one
day to see her before coming back up to New Jersey to work outside in
the freezing conditions this winter. It is not right, in my view,
that he, a good law abiding citizen, should be given such a hefty
ticket - a criminal offense - even if he was speeding a little bit.
Thank you for your time and effort. |
