Hi Freddie,

The texture coat is painted onto wood.

I appreciate your help.

Hi Chris,

After doing some online research and coming up with very little I gave
a call to my friend, who is a professional painter. He owns a large
commercial painting company and has been in business for 21 years, so
he is quite knowledgeable in this area.

His recommendations are:

1)If the texture coat is water-based (such as acrylic) then you can
power wash with a high-pressure washer, then sand, then power wash
again to remove the residue.

2)You can also try a paint stripper. Test a section first and if the
stripper works then the paint is oil-based. You want to remove as
much of the paint as you can with the stripper, then power wash as
above (#1).

3)Another option, albeit a very risky one, is to sandblast. However,
this could be very damaging to the wood underneath, and is a risk to
your windows and doors.

4)You can also opt to chisel and sand off the texture if it is a
concrete substance. This will probably be your *only* option of you
have a stucco-type concrete texture. Power washing will likely not
remove stucco. Obviously this step is going to be the most labor
intensive.

Because I am unsure about what type of material the texture coat is,
it?s hard to give a definitive answer. Any way you choose to remove
this is going to be very messy and time-consuming, and it is likely
that you won?t like what you find underneath the texture since
oftentimes this texture is used to camouflage less than perfect
surfaces.

I found the following reference regarding removal of texture coating
online. This site was expired and cached so I am not sure you will be
able to pull the page up so I am going to quote the entire Q&A. The
question was asked of http://www.paintstore.com

Question: ?My house has a texture coating on it and it is peeling. I
would like to repaint the house but the texture coating needs to be
removed. What has to be done to get the job done correctly? I am
getting different ideas but I need to know what is the correct way to
have this removed??

Answer: ?Most texture paint is water-soluble and can be stripped with
a conventional paint stripper. However, it may be easier to scrape the
surface clean. In this case be sure to wear eye protection and dust
mask, as this will create dust. Scraping can also be rather messy so
be sure to cover or remove anything that could be damaged in the
process.?

There is an online source for paint removal products. Since I do not
know what type of paint the texture coating is I cannot recommend a
particular remover, but you can call their customer support and see
what they recommend. You can also peruse their site and see if
anything they offer might help you make this job easier.

you need any clarification.

Thanks!
