Dear Billstrain,
Do you want to manufacture one or do you want to understand how it
works? How deep should the chemical explanations go?

We wish to manufacture water based and water extended non-silicone defoamers.
We currently manufacture oil based EBS defoamers.

Dear billstrain,

I think this satisfies your description.

Patent 4 032 473 Water-based defoamer compositions: describes a
defoamer where silicone oil is optional.

http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&u=/netahtml/search-adv.htm&r=4&p=1&f=G&l=50&d=pall&S1=(defoamer.TTL.+AND+water.TTL.)&OS=ttl/defoamer+and+ttl/water&RS=(TTL/defoamer+AND+TTL/water)

Search strategy:
patent database
within the database the search terms were defoamer and water

Please select clarify answer if I have misunderstood.

We currently manufacture defoamers containig ethylenebissteramide as
described
in the literature. We are looking for water based defoamers that do
not contain EBS or silicone oils. An example might be an emulsifiable
silica dispersion. The problem with EBS(which most paper defoamers
contain)is that it tends to leave an undesireable film on process
equipment.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll keep working.

Dear billstrain,

Hopefully I am gaining a better understanding of your application:
The following links were checked for silicon oil and
ethylenebissteramide:

Patent 5,679,286 Aqueous dispersions of antifoam agents::
http://makeashorterlink.com/?X11651D61

Patent 4,741,861 Silicone-based antifoam composition
http://makeashorterlink.com/?U27552D61

Patent 5,846,454 Water dispersible antifoam concentrates
http://makeashorterlink.com/?A26652D61

I think that claim 1. of Patent 4,032,473:
http://makeashorterlink.com/?J23132A61 previously mentioned: did not
contain silicon oils or ethylenebissteramide. Although, I realize that
this was not the preferred embodiment of the patent and it would lose
some of its high temperature properties I wondered if it may still be
useful for application other than the paper industry.

If the above are unsuitable, could you please suggest a further list
of unwanted components and perhaps some typical applications and I
would be happy to continue searching.

Regards,
