Hi cxd!!

According to the TrendMicro site TROJ_SMALL.ID is is a Trojan horse
program, a malware that has no capability to spread into other
systems.

If you are using Windows XP and your computer has enabled multiple
profiles/users, logon as an administrator user:
To see the properties of your current account go to Control Panel -->
Users Accounts, if you need to change something select an account and
modify it.
To logon as an administrator, press Ctrl+Alt+Del TWICE at the Welcome
Screen. This should prompt you the normal login screen. You can then
login as Administrator from there.
If you experienced some troubles with this step see:
"How to login as Administrator in Windows XP?":
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/admins.htm

And remember that you only need to perform the above procedure if your
computer has two or more user accounts enabled. A single account
system always log as administrator.

The first step to remove it from your computer is to disable the
System Restore feature if you are using Windows Me or Windows XP. See
the following page for instructions:
"Disabling or enabling Windows XP System Restore":
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam
or
"Disabling or enabling Windows Me System Restore":
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001012513122239?Open&src=sec_doc_nam&docid=2001111912274039&nsf=tsgeninfo.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=

Now open your browser and connect it to the Internet. Run an online
virus scan at TrendMicro. Just follow the instructions on the site to
run the online scan.
This one support almost OS and browsers, but you will need the Java
plugin (I suggest you to use this version):
http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/products/housecall_launch.php

If you use Internet Explorer or a browser that use its engine (ex: Maxthon):
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

If your PC is actually infected with TROJ_SMALL.ID trojan, just follow
the instructions to remove it from your computer.

There exist the possibility that the following error message appears
during the removal procedure:
"Removal of an Infection Failed!
Housecall was unable to clean or delete any information from your system!"
In this case please take account on the locations for the trojans and
infected files and post a request for a clarification with this info
in order to continue the removal by other method.

i hope that this helps you. Please do not consider this answer ended
until the TROJ_SMALL.ID was removed from your computer. This is not
the last chance, there are many tools and methods to continue trying.
I will be glad to respond your requests for further assistance if you
still experience troubles with this trojan.

Best regards.

I should have mentioned that my OS is windows 2000. It looks like
each solution is either for Me or XP.

Is there a solution fro 2000?

thx,
Chris

This solution works in Windows 2000, just skip the "Disabling or
enabling System Restore" step. the rest works for all versions of
Windows.
I included the above step because I did not know your operative system.
Note that you must login as an administrator, if you have a single
account system just start with the scan.

To be more clear:

-Login as an administrator (skip this if you have a single account system).

-Open your browser and connect it to the Internet. Run an online virus
scan at TrendMicro. Just follow the instructions on the site to run
the online scan.
This one support almost OS and browsers, but you will need the Java
plugin (I suggest you to use this version):

Hope that this helps you. Again feel free to use the clarification
feature all the times you need it until you are satisfied withthe
answer.
