Just been listening to a few jokes in hotel bar; the usual type one hears in Aussie hotel bar. Another cupla jokes came up that I have been hearing on and off all my life but just wondered are these peculiar to Australia or do they feature in other parts of the world also and perhaps in non-texan USA also?? The story line always revolves around three people talking over a beer, one Texan, one Aussie and one other nationality that could be any really but often and Englishman. The other theme is usually to do with size, and invariably the other nationality opens up with how big something is or was in his/her country ,then the Texan scoffs at that by being able to show that in Texas what the Englishman described as big would be considered tiny in Texas(often a ranch, or piece of land) which then leaves the Aussie to put both to shame by saying Australia has sheep farms bigger than all Texas or a similar putdown to do with size. Anyway are such jokes only to be found in Oz and therefore are alien to other peoples ears or do they prevail in other parts of the world. And I suppose any samples would be nice to hear too.. N.B We Aussies by the way dont aim to always try and show biggest or best in Australia and laugh just as much when jokes come from others that ridicule or put down Australians, especially when it comes to our levels of sophistication and finesse. Yes there are a lot of Jokes about Texas and Texians in the USA also, and esp. about size being all important. I am from New Mexico where all the Texans go to Ski and take in the Opera. We used to always say that if God wanted Texans to Ski he would have given them a mountain. :) |

Two Texans are talking: --Why, I can git in my pick-up, start at one end of my ranch in the mornin', drive all day, and not git to the other end 'till sundown --Yep. I had a truck like that, once. |

I was born and raised in Oklahoma. Jokes about Texas and Texans are plentiful here. O'course, we don't call the place "Texas." We call it "Baja Oklahoma." |

Like Anne Marie, I heard the jokes about the "Texans" regarding Americans. More specifically, Paf's joke about the tractors? I know the East German version: West German/American: I get up in the morning, start my tractor and I am not at the end of the field by down. East German: Before unification, I also had a tractor like that. |

JFM, I'll let you recite the one about the Texan visiting Sydney and asking about the Bridge. This one's for real though. A Texan acquaintance through work was offering out strawberries. We commented on how big and tasty they were. He couldn't help it. He just had to reply with: "We use these as seeds back home". Phil |

The form of the joke is reminiscent of english 'an englishman, an irishman and a scotsman jokes. E.G. An Englishman an Irishman and a Scotsman were in a pub, talking about their sons. My son was born on St George's Day," commented the English man. "So we obviously decided to call him George" "That's a real coincidence," remarked the Scot. "My son was born on St Andrew's Day, so obviously we decided to call him Andrew." "That's incredible, what a coincidence, "said the Irishman. "Exactly the same thing happened with my son Pancake." As for texas jokes, i dont know any english ones about texans and size, but there is this one i know, What's the definition of a texan virgin? A girl who can run faster than her brother. |
