Nathanial Hawthorne lived at 14 Mall Street in Salem, MA when he wrote
The Scarlet Letter in 1849. My husband and I currently live in the
house across the street, 15 Mall Street. We understand from neighbors
and previous owners of the home that Hawthorne referenced the house at
some point in one of his writings during that time. We would like to
find that reference. While living at 14 Mall Street, Hawthorne had
written a few articles in addition to the Scarlet Letter,--a review of
Evangeline, The Snow Image, Main Street, Ethan Brand, and The Great
Stone Face.
