wishnevsky-ga,

Thanks for the question...I love doing WWII work.

The quote you mentioned is used two publications that I located:

Biographical Dictionary of World War II
Mark M. Boatner III; Presidio Press, 1996

pg 231:

"In the spring of 1943 Lt Gen Hodges reached England to be his friend
BRADLEY's deputy and commander designate in 1st Army Hq. Army CofS
George Marshall commented in a message to Eisenhower on 28 Dec 43 that
"Hodges is exactly [the] same class of man as Bradley in practically
every respect" ( Pogue, Marshall , II, 647n20). The quiet Georgian
took over the 1st Army Hq from BRADLEY on 1 Aug 44."

The reference given for Pogue is:

Pogue, Marshall
George C. Marshall: Ordeal and Hope, 1939-1942. New York: Viking 1966.
Cited as Pogue, Marshall, II

==========

The same quote is also used more fully (in pretty much the same form
as you gave it), in:

The Supreme Commander: The War Years of General Dwight D. Eisenhower
by Stephen E. Ambrose
University Press of Mississippi; Reprint edition (October 1, 1999)

and can be found on pg 312. However, no citation is given.

I trust this information fully meets your needs.

However, before rating this answer, please let me know if there's
anything else I can do for you. Just post a Request for
Clarification, and I'm at your service.
