I recorded a show on DVD from my HDTV. When I play the DVD on my computer, however, it shows silver bands across the top and bottom (the same thing happens with InterVideo DVD and PowerDVD). I assume this is for the same reason I would see silver bands if I watched this DVD on a non-HD TV. My question is, is there any DVD player software available that will accommodate HDTV DVDs (even if it just loses the bands)? Or is there any way I can modify the recording so that it plays without the bands but retains the HD quality? Thanks very much! |

I'm confused. HDTV is going to be a widescreen format. Unless you have a widescreen monitor, of course there's going to be some area of the screen that cannot be filled with content, and thus you'll see bands of some color above and below the picture. Are you saying that these bands are causing the image to be compressed vertically, like the player is set in a widescreen window and then adding bands as if it's trying to compensate for fullscreen anyways? |

Right, I know that about widescreen. But PowerDVD offers a "linear stretch" feature that allows you to view a widescreen DVD on a non-widescreen monitor, so that there is no banding. Linear stretch isn't working on the HDTV DVD. It's almost as though PowerDVD treats the silver bands as part of the picture, though I don't know if that's the issue. I've only just obtained InterVideo DVD to see if it behaves any better; so far, I haven't found a way but am still looking. Many thanks! |

No luck with InterVideo WinDVD, either--still the silver bands. I'm at my wits' end. Thanks in advance for any help or insight... Oh, one other bit of information that may or may not be useful: I recorded to a DVD+RW. I have no idea whatsoever if that makes any difference (I do know that not all of the DVD players in my house can cope with it). Just FYI. Thanks again! |
