These two drugs can be dangerous when taken together.
"fluoxetine and phentermine (major Drug-Drug)
Description:
GENERALLY AVOID: Several case reports suggest that patients treated
with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may exhibit an
increased sensitivity to sympathomimetic agents. The mechanism by
which this interaction occurs is unknown. The reaction has been
reported when fluoxetine was used concomitantly with phentermine,
amphetamine, or phenylpropanolamine. Data for other combinations of
SSRI and sympathomimetic agent are not available. Additionally, some
sympathomimetic agents like fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine (no
longer commercially marketed) may possess serotonergic activity and
should generally not be administered with SSRIs because of the
additive risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and
potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of
brainstem 5HT1A receptors. MANAGEMENT: Close monitoring for enhanced
sympathomimetic effects is recommended if these agents must be used
together. Patients should also be monitored for serotonergic effects
and advised to report any symptoms such as CNS irritability, altered
consciousness, confusion, myoclonus, ataxia, abdominal cramping,
hyperpyrexia, shivering, pupillary dilation, diaphoresis,
hypertension, and tachycardia"
