Microsoft Software Activation when Cloning a Server

I have cloned our Windows 2003 server so that I would have a test
platform to experiment with installing a new app (called X1) before
unleashing it on our main server which is a mission critical terminal
server to 5 people.

I used V2I by PowerQuest to ghost the machine. It worked great. I
cloned it to identical hardware (an exactly identical Dell server).

Now when I boot the clone, it seems to have noticed that the hardware
is different (even though the 2 server were purchased together and are
identical) and says I have 2 days left to activate the server. Apart
from that, it works fine.

I need more then 3 days to test it and I do not want to have to buy
another license for a temporary test box.

My questions are these:

1 ? If I activate the test server, will the main server suddenly stop working?
2 ? Is there a way to not have to purchase another license for a
server that will just be used for a short test and then to just sit
idle in waiting. It is a reserve in case the main one breaks down.

P.S. My Google answers act has been giving me some problems. I seem
to be able to post now, but not do a Clarify Question or post a
comment. I?m hoping this prob will be fixed soon.

thanx in advnce,

Hello,
In my opinion, it sounds like you are trying to violate copyright
laws. Even though you only want the 2nd server as a backup, it will
require it's own license. If you got it to work without a 2nd license,
what would stop you from using your "backup" server?
