I am looking for any type of image (painting, photograph, line
drawing, etc) that depicts two trains in the middle of a head-on
collision (either right before impact or during impact). I do not want
an image that depicts the *aftermath* of a train wreck (I guess you
could say the image needs to be in real time). I have tried Google
image search using the following strings: train wreck, train
collision, train head-on, head-on collision, and so forth. Thanks.

I have located the following photographs of a famous staged head-on
collision of two trains. The paid spectator event occurred on
September 15, 1896. I hope one or more of these images meets your
needs.

Sincerely,

Wonko

the two trains at the moment of impact).

The resulting boiler explosion is depicted here: "Crash at Crush --

Thank you, wonko. I would much appreciate it if you could let me know
how you found this information. It is exactly what I wanted, but I
would like to see if I can find more images similar to these (this is
for an art project)...

Thanks,

I had a vague recollection that two steam-powered trains had been
crashed together deliberately at some point in the past. I thought it
unlikely that photographs of the type you would be seeking would be
readily available unless the collision was staged. Plugging the terms
train head-on collision staged into Google led me to the sites I
provided you. There are other types of staged train collisions that
continue to occur for research purposes. The National Transportation
Safety Board has videos of staged collisions of trains with various
vehicles available for purchase. There are more pictures of the
collision I provided you with available in print, I believe.

Good luck with your search.

Sincerely,

Wonko
