Plus8-ga:

I have taken the liberty of identifying an individual in England who
should reasonably be an expert on Sherlock Holmes as presented in the
works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I'm awaiting a reply from that person
regarding a telephone number for Holmes, if any, documented from the
Holmesian cannon.

If a telephone number for Holmes, in whatever format, was presented by
Doyle it will definitely be an answer for you here. However,
entertaining the possibility that Doyle did not present a telephone
number for Holmes, could your question be successfully rephrased as
follows:

How could a person have reached a resident at 221B Baker Street by
telephone between the years of 1881 and 1904 [the depicted span of
Holmes' residential career at 221B Baker Street], assuming there was a
telephone at that address during those years?

If it can be rephrased that way, would providing that information
constitute a successful answer for you here?

Regards,

Brettquest

I would be content with a telephone number authentic to the time and the area.
