Well, there are ways of monitoring cellphone calls with the consent of
the person being monitored. Would this be acceptable?

Clarification of Question by madmary1000-ga on 31 Jul 2002 02:14 PDT
i could easily get permission, but would not want them to know when
and where, so no bells whistles and flashing lights,so, if permission,
written or otherwise is needed, for this surveillence, no problem
there.

Hi,

Judging by your other questions on this site, I'm assuming that
cellphone surveillance is your primary concern.

Unfortunately, scanning or otherwise monitoring cellphone calls has
been illegal since 1986, and modern encrypted digital cells are
impossible to listen in to.

Since Researchers are for bidden under the Terms of Service from
answering questions "...that relate to illegal activity...", I'm
afraid that you may be asking the impossible.

You can find legal forms of audio surveillance equipment here:

I would use an Infinity Bug for listening to rooms, try
http://www.sesp.co.il/item06.htm if you really must do that sort of
thing.

Old analouge cell phones are easy, any good scanner within range,
don't know what you'd be using.
Digital mobiles are harder though, you going to need something small
to fit in some of those handsets and if its not really screened all
you'll hear is the digital signal (that you hear on your car radio
when the phone rings and is stored too near by).

You should of course check your local laws on the legality of such
actions.

Or work for the government, does not matter which country. ;)
