Here's the deal:
I've used Microsoft Outlook (various versions) successfully with IMAP
over the last couple of years. So I know it *can* work okay. But I
recently purchased a new laptop, and installd a fresh copy of Office
2003, including Outlook 2003. I've setup two profiles: A Microsoft
Exchange profile, for when I'm at work, and an Internet profile for
when I'm at home.
In the "Internet" profile I have created my IMAP account (provided via
fastmail.fm). It works - I can view my messages, etc. - but every
time I move the message selection cursor to a different message
subject, there is a delay that is proportional to the size of the
message. It appears tht Outlook is downloading the entire message
each time, rather than just the header. Further evidence of this is
the fact that I can "instantly" open large messages once the
"highlight delay" is over.
I have both the "Reading Pane" and AutoPreview turned OFF.
Note that I have read other messages where Windows Messenger was the
culprit in slowing down Outlook, but I don't believe that is the case
here. (The "Enable Person Names Smart Tag" is not checked. I believe
Outlook 2002 had a slightly different option.)
Anyone that helps me fix this problem gets 50 bucks!
p.s. Yes, I have tried Thunderbird, and although it works, I prefer
Outlook - especially since all my other work, etc. is in Outlook, and
I can't change that.
Thanks.
