I sell department store merchandise on my website
WWW.pikecountywholesale.com I do not name the various major department
stores that supply me the merchandise because then I would be directly
competing with them, instead of selling their overstock. I ask
potential customers to e-mail me their questions and then I tell them
the brand names. I know that others in this business use a "list" with
codes and they put a code number and/or  code name in the add ie.
department 1. The wholesale customers familiar with the list know what they are
looking at. I would like to use this code list for my site. Could you
find out some of the names that correspond with the stores on this list? or
tell me where I can obtain this code list.

sites that use the codes in question?  It would help our research
efforts to be able to see the actual use of the codes you mentioned.

I see code 3 or code 4 frequently in various wholesale ads in
wholesale news papers and on the internet but can not remember a
specific site or have any links at this time.I telephoned my friend in
the business and he didn't know either. Even if there is more than one
code list(I am not sure)I could use one as a guideline if it can be
found.

The code lists used by some of the wholesale sites are available from
the sites themselves, if you just send them an email requesting the
list.

For instance, I received one list with 30 codes...the first few look like this:


#1 K. Mart          
#2 Sears                
#3 Federated Stores: Macy's/Blomingdale's/Stern's/Burdines/Lazarus


Some of the other notable names on the list were:  19-Wal Mart;
11-Target; 18-Circuit City.

Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the entire list, since it may be
protected by copyright.

However, you can easily request and receive a full copy of the codes
list for your own use.  Here are several on-line sites where you can
request the list by calling them, or by supplying your name, address,
