I have a peugeot 205 zest 1994 model, it has developed a problem with
the clutch cable, I have had to renew the cable 4 times in six months
the garage just seem to be unable to diagnose any fault with the
clutch. can anyone help?

Have you thought about going to another garage. I will bet that your
"mechanic" is causing the problem by not preventing the clutch cable
from turning while tightening the adjusting nut. I had the same
problem years ago on a VW. It was obvious to me what had been done
because the cable had been damaged by twisting. In service the cable
is never twisted. You are right in thinking that the cable would not
fail four times in six months due to normal conditions.

The problem only started last year, the only thing that I have noticed
is that the pedal becomes heavy to operate just before the cable
snaps. The garage has been changed and I have now placed it with a
peugeot dealership in the hope that they may be able to spot the
problem. The car belongs to my daughter now, & unlike me she will not
accept any stories, I have noted your reply & will pass it on to my
daughter. If what I have said to you regarding the symptoms throws any
further light on the problem, please advise me. TVM
