This question is for missy-ga only, as sort of thanks for her generous hospitality. The order of the adjectives in the English language is: Opinion, dimension, age, shape, colour, origin, material. So, my question is: how come those renaissance painters are called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Mutant, after all, is a matter of opinion, isn?t it? And what kind of adjective is ?Ninja?? (OK: two questions in the price of one). Feel free to post your opinions, but this question is strictly missy?s. |

Easy. Teenage = age Mutant (ie Mutated) = origin Ninja Turtle (noun) = a turtle happens to be a ninja :D |

for a laugh............ > A college English professor wrote the words "woman without > her man is a savage" on the board and asked the students > to punctuate it correctly. > The males wrote: "Woman, without her man, is a savage." > The females wrote: "Woman! Without her, man is a savage." Anne-Marie |

My guess is that "ninja turtles" is a compound noun. To put it another way, the word "teenage" doesn't modify "turtles" but rather "ninja turtles." Another explanation is that an eighth place on the scale of adjective order is "purpose" (http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache:8FuqqtgnY2MJ:www.learnenglish.de/grammar/adjectiveorder.htm+order+adjectives+type&hl=en). "Ninja" could be a "purpose" adjective. |

This question was specifically addressed to Missy-ga. Why in the world would a "commenter" answer this? I find this most inappropriate. My two cents. Steph53 |

Because PG said, "Feel free to post your opinions, but this question is strictly missy?s." I was just posting a guess; perhaps it can help Missy answer the question. |
