Dear BMoller,

It just happens that a person close to has been writing his
dissertation about Baader-Meinhof, and I have been with him to several
"Rote-Hilfe" events.

Convicted for the attack against the US Army base in Heidelberg in
1972, Irmgard Moller was one of the Stammheim RAF prisoners. She is
the only one who survived their attempted suicide in 1977. In 1994,
after 22 years in prison (in Luebeck), she has been released: "After
22 years in custody, M?ller was released from Luebeck prison on 1
December 1994." (Baader-Meinhof.com, who's who / terrorists/ Irmgard
M?ller <http://www.baader-meinhof.com/who/terrorists/bmgang/moellerirmgard.html>).

There are two separate sources on her whereabouts, and it is pretty
clear that she wishes to remain anonymous: also Rote-Hilfe provide no
real information on her activity, and she's is probably not
significantly politically active.

The first source, quoted by Mark J. here, says that she lives in
Southern Germany with her partner. It is the RAF-Info site (which my
friend says is usually reliable). However, the person who answered it
is signed "anonymous" and it is not clear how accurate this
information is. Journalist Oliver Tolmein of the taz, who interviewed
here, and the editor Walter Kuhl, claim that she lives in Hamburg
(which is close to Luebeck and makes some sense).

As you may know, in April 1998 the organisation declared its break-up.
There are reports of the Federal Bureau for Constitutional Protection
(Verfassungsschutz) and of the Bundeskriminalamt (Federal Bureau of
Criminal Investigations), that are open to the public, and discuss
constitutional hazards in Germany today. Although they follow the
extreme-left, it seems that they consider other forms of political
terrorism as more relevant. See (in German):
Bundesamt f?r Verfassungsschutz
<http://www.verfassungsschutz.de/de/publikationen/>

In any case, not only that she's not active (or: there are no signs
that she is), but also that in general, extreme-left terrorism is a
bit passe in Germany...

I hope this answered your question. Please contact me if you need any
further clarifications on this answer before you rate it. My search
terms have been:
"Irmgard M?ller" (with "lebt OR wohnt")
I also searched Google News. I found only one news report mentioning
her name, but if you're interested, you might want to sign up for

My German is not good enough to follow all the leads, but one source
said that in late 2003 she was living in South Germany:

"Sie lebt jetzt mit ihrem Lebensgefährten anonym in Süddeutschland."
Rafinfo: Wo ist Irmgard Möller ?
http://www.rafinfo.de/faq/mitglieder/wo_ist_irmgard_moeller_.135.php

And, she apparently wrote a book that was published in 2002:

RAF, Das war für uns Befreiung
http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/3894582170/028-9587185-7175750

Possibly one of our German researchers can follow these clues up and
provide you with more information.

Note that her last name appears in three different versions,
especially on English-language sites: "Möller" (which is correct),
"Moeller" (with a common Anglicization of a German umlaut) or
"Moller."

I should also have mentioned that she was released from prison in
1994, not 1999 (see the Amazon.de link provided in my previous
comment).

Thank you for the rating.

If you need something specific - that doesn't violate the Google
Answers ToS (terms of service) - let me know (of coruse, you'll have
to post separate questions). As I said, I have pretty good soruces on
the RAF and the other groups (Bewegung 2. Juni, etc.). If you need
specific information about Moeller, I suggest you'll try further:
- To contact Rote Hilfe and similar venues (maybe the taz journalist);
- To contact Butz Peters, he might know something;
- To contact Stefan Aust.

I hope that whatever research or journalistic work you're doing,
you're not basing yourself on the Jillian Becker's book:
sensationalism at its worse.
