I am looking for a device that you wear over your ears(like headphones) to cut out external noise. What is it called? Where can I find one in the UK? | |

I'm glad to have been able to help you find what you're looking for! These devices go by many names, including "ear defenders," "ear protectors," and "noise reduction earmuffs." I'm reposting the UK link that I suggested earlier: Abbey Pro: Hearing Protection Ear Defenders http://www.abbeypro.co.uk/subprod/ear-defenders-0000822.aspx Here are a few more options, from UK sites: The Outdoor UK Army Surplus Shop: Ear Defenders http://www.the-outdoor.co.uk/ishop/853/shopscr104.html Value DIY: Ear Defenders http://www.valuediy.co.uk/diystore/catalogue/Work%20Wear/Ear%20Defenders Howsafe LTD: Ear Plugs and Muffs http://secure.cyberware.co.uk/~cb708/acatalog/Ear_Plugs___Muffs.html My Google search strategy: Google Web Search: "ear defenders OR protectors" OR "noise * earmuffs" site:.uk ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22ear+defenders+OR+protectors+%22+OR+%22noise+*+earmuffs%22+site%3A.uk I hope this is helpful. If anything is unclear or incomplete, or if a link doesn't work for you, please request clarification; I'll be glad to offer further assistance before you rate my answer. Many thanks to my friend and colleague thx1138, who provided me with useful information related to this search. Best regards, pinkfreud |

You may also want to look at headsets with "active noise cancellation". They have a microphone and electronics that sence the incomming sound wave and generate a wave 180 degrees out of phase. They add and cancel each other out. They are quite effective. |
