I trained as a Registered General Nurse at Manchester Royal Infirmary
School of Nursing, England, and qualified in July 1991.

Not long after I qualified the school of nursing at Manchester Royal
Infirmary became part of the South West Manchester College of Nursing.

The badge I was given when I qualified is the traditional ?bronze
penny? from MRI but my certificate is from the South West Manchester
College of Nursing ? both dated October 1991.

Both the MRI school and South West Manchester College of Nursing now
no longer exist and I was wondering if you would be able to tell me
what happened to them and where I would be able to obtain a
transcript/document detailing the course I studied.

Thank you.

Hi higgy69,

If you are able to locate your records as a result of this
information, I'd appreciate you letting me know in a "Clarification"
so I can post in the Answer Box and be compensated...

I was able to find this reference to a merger in a 2002 Student Nursing Handbook:

PAGE 2 of:
http://www.nursing.teaching.man.ac.uk/handbooks/DPSN%20Handbook%20Sept%202002.pdf
..."The University of Manchester is the largest civic university in England with
approximately 17,000 full time students and is responsible for a further 30,000
students at its affiliated colleges and on part time and short
courses. There are 8 faculties and 5 graduate schools. The School of
Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting is located within the Faculty
of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy.

The School was created in November 1996 by the merger of the Manchester
College of Nursing and Midwifery and the Department of Nursing Studies. The
college was the last to be integrated with a higher education institution in
England. The College itself is the product of a series of mergers of schools of
nursing and midwifery in the Manchester area over a five-year period..."

IF this is the correct merger, the course to follow to retreive your
records is also spelled out in further down in the document:

PAGE 34: OFFICIAL DISCLOSURE

..."In order to minimise the possible creation of fraudulent documents, formal
requests from students for an official document of the University containing
examination results should be channelled through the Academic Registrar and
met in one of the following ways:

(1) University Transcripts
University transcripts are available to all past and currently registered
students, on application to the Student Records Office and on payment of
a fee. In addition to details of individual subjects taken the Transcript will
contain, where appropriate, details of marks achieved; pass, condoned
pass or fail for each subject and a final grade. This information will be
included for all years - including the final year of a course.

This information is not at present recorded in the Student Records Office
and will be requested by that office from Departments on an individual
basis.

(2) Disclosure under the Data Protection Act
Applications for disclosure under the Data Protection Act will be through
the Data Protection Co-ordinator for each institution. After determination
that the request is legitimate, it will involve disclosure of only those details
held on computer or word-processor at the time of receipt of the request,
although these details may be routinely updated up to the date of
compliance with the request.

UMIST students requesting disclosure under the Act through the
University co-ordinator will receive only the information on the central
records system. A separate application will need to be made to the UMIST
co-ordinator for disclosure of departmental details held at UMIST..."

I went to their faculty search page, entered "Academic Registrar" and
came up with some results. This is as far as I can go. You'll have
to contact these folks and determine if this is the right place from
