Can you directly attach the camera to te computer via USB? What is the model of the camera? What operating system are you using? |

Hmmmm. I wonder if the USB port is malfunctioning. Can you try another? Do you have a powered USB hub perhaps? Do you have other USB devices that *do* work in the ports that fail for the camera and the drive? Can you possibly try on a different computer? |

Do you get the same problem with both cameras? |

OK. I turned off my computer, unplugged my backup power source and turned off my power strip and let it stand overnight. I then turned it back on in the morning and nothing changed. I still can't access my usb or CD drives. To answer your question: I get the same error using both cameras. If you want me to check the ports that you mentioned you'll have to write out how I do that. I'm using a D-LINK DSB-H4 USB Hub. I have tried bypassing the hub and running direct into the back of my computer's USB port, but nothing changes. When I plug in a little usb hard drive by JOGR, the computer makes a noise and recognizes it's plugged in. Thus, the built-in drivers in XP recogize the usb hardware. However, when I go to MY COMPUTER and click on the drive I get the same error. "not accessible". I put in a CD in my CD Drive and it recognizes it but when I "click" on it SAME ERROR. |

Ouch! You've done the test of other USB ports pretty much as I was suggesting, so that eliminates a dud port. About the CD thing: is it also a USB drive, or is it the internal drive on your computer that you are meaning? If it is a USB drive, it *could* be a problem with the USB controller (probably included on the motherboard). If it is the internal drive, it sounds like a general I/O related problem. If we get into the realm of using XP to diagnose hardware faults, or even if there is some Windows "trick" to "reset" the USB controller or I/O subsystem, I'm afraid I won't be able to help as these are not areas of competence for me. |

no... It's just a plain old CD ROM drive that is internal in the system. I feel like there is a a quick fix for my problem I just don't know what that would be right now. My computer runs fine except I can't access my drives other than my main C drive. I'm stumped. I wish I could run my XP Windows CD and do a Repair or Fix but the drive doesn't let me access to get to it. I ran the Symantech Utilities and ran Norton Disk Doctor and Norton Windoctor and then restart my computer. That didn't help... although I was hoping it would. :0) Next, I tried a System Restore... again, it didn't work. Do you think it's possible that I have some virus? I ran the SE Ad ware Personal and it basically found nothing important to delete. I'm really stumped. |

All I can suggest is that, perhaps, you close this question and repost it with an emphasis on what appears to be a system problem, rather than one specific to downloading images from a camera. Maybe you'll attract an expert who can help you diagnose the problem further. Sorry I can't help more. |
