A while back I read a newspaper article about the construction costs of warehouse clubs such as Costco and Sam's Club. The thesis was that the industrial motif of warehouse clubs is actually more expensive than other retail establishments. But customers perceive the gray concrete and industrial lighting as cheaper, leading them to think this is one reason they're getting a better deal on price. I'm trying to locate the article, not having much luck. I suspect it was in the Wall Street Journal, or maybe the NY Times. Need the URL for this article. Thanks! |
