In November 1944, Kurt Jahnke's secretary Carl Marcus (or Karl Markus)
crossed the Allied lines as Jahnke's emissary with a message for
(Lord) Robert Vansittart, a senior British mandarin.

Jahnke had some ideas for helping the Allies spread disruption in
Germany and for organising the peace.

He said that one of his supporters was Professor Emge of the Nietzsche
Archiv.

Who was Professor Emge and why was his name worth bandying around?

Since I am not a German speaker, the most of the information I
collecte about Emge is about his later life. Below is what I have
found out about Emge. If you find it acceptable, please let me know
and I can post it as an answer.

Carl August Emge (1886-1970) was a German philosopher. He was
philosophy professor from Jena.

According to this page: http://makeashorterlink.com/?Z40C52661, Emge
was the former charman of the Scientific Committee of the Nietzsche
Archives, he was a NSDAP (Nazi) member since 1931.

This page: http://makeashorterlink.com/?B24C21661 indicates that he
was expelled from Berlin University for political reasons during the
National Socialists' rise to power (c. 1933).

Among his works were "Diesseits und jenseits des Unrechts" (1942) a
volume of legal philosophy and "Das Eherecht Immanuel Kants"
(pre-1925) a summary of Kant's philosophy on marriage, "Einführung in
die Rechtsphilosophie" (1955) and "Philosophie der
Rechtswissenschaften" (1961).

Oops, here's my search strategy:

On Google:
Emge Nietzsche
"Carl August Emge"

In addition, I searched JSTOR (http://www.jstor.org), an academic
journal archive for information on Emge.
Also, I searched WebSPIRS (http://spweb.silverplatter.com), a database
of philosophy articles written from the late 19th century to the
present for articles written by Emge. Both of those databases are not
available to the public.

I also employed the aid of Google's Language Tools to translate German
pages into English.
Thanks Google! :-)

Well done!

However, I am amazed that you could make any sense out any translation
effected courtesy of the G****e translation tools.

Oops ... Is that libellous?

Kindest regards

Bryan
